Historical Context
The establishment of the National Defence College - Uganda emerged from a strategic need to develop homegrown capacity for strategic leadership and defence management. In the early 21st century, Uganda's growing regional responsibilities and complex security environment necessitated an institution that could cultivate strategic thinkers capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.

Conceptualization & Planning

The initial concept for a National Defence College in Uganda was developed by the UPDF leadership. Strategic planning committees were established to study similar institutions worldwide and adapt best practices.
Official Establishment

The National Defence College - Uganda was formally established by an Act of Parliament, marking a significant milestone in Uganda's defence education landscape.
Inaugural Course Launch

The first Senior Command and Staff Course commenced, representing the beginning of a new era in Ugandan military education, focusing on strategic studies and national security policy.
International Partnerships

NDC-U established formal partnerships with leading defence colleges worldwide, facilitating faculty exchanges, joint research, and admitting the first international students.
Academic Accreditation
